The South African countryside can be summed up in the phrase "wide open space".

Vast plains covered with undulating wheat and maize fields and bursts of brightly coloured sunflowers are exaggerated by the huge expanses of blue sky and the magical African light.

The regions range from:
· Tropical rainforest
· Grassy savannah
· Semi-arid planes
· Kalahari Desert
The mountains, too, range from the rocky and arid to lush and green with sweeping vistas and snow-capped peaks. In the Northern Cape you can shoot desert dunes that stretch from horizon to horizon with not a plant in sight. In the Drakensberg, 3000m above sea level on a mountain peak, you can capture an amphitheatre of rolling hills and jagged peaks as far as the eye can see.
