Background:
The Food Lab was founded in 1989 and operated under Tourvest directorship. In March 2001 the Management bought the Company back from Tourvest and therefore the Company is Management owned and run. This concept means that the major role players are hands on, and this is how we believe we can ensure complete accountability and a business run by people with passion and experience.
Since 1989 Felix Unite Catering now Trading as THE FOOD LAB has been linked to many commercial and feature film shoots, and has over the years grown with the Film Industry, thereby enhancing and perfecting Location Catering to the needs of local and international Film Crews.
In August 2003, intensive work was undertaken into re-structuring and upgrading Menus and Food preparation styles and the emphasis placed on FRESH, CLEAN AND WHOLESOME Food as well as Exceptional Service and Attention to detail. The Company re-branded and is now known as “THE FOOD LAB”. Lize Barnes, with Michelle Adriaanse & Thelma Zwedala heading the Kitchen, run THE FOOD LAB. THE FOOD LAB will definitely be able to tempt your taste buds and pamper your crew in any environment.

What We
Do:
We have a fully equipped kitchen based in Ottery as well as a Fully fitted Mobile Kitchen which is ideal for shoots out of Cape Town and from which we can cater for up to 300 people. We offer Location Catering with a team of experienced Chefs and catering Staff. Catering for Local & International Film Crews from pre-production, through shoot to post-production. We have 3 price categories to suit budgets and a commitment to tailor make packages to suit all budget requirements. These price categories normally include Breakfast, Lunch and Craft Service, but can be amended according to your needs. Our Menus are amended according to Dietary requirements and needs for each shoot. We provide all equipment such as Tables, Chairs, Crockery, Cutlery, glassware, gas cooking equipment, ice machines, freezer trailer, urns, coffee machines, flasks, hot boxes, cooler boxes etc. Management on call 24 hours for the duration of your shoot.

Company Information:
Lize Barnes manages the company. The in house chefs are Michelle Adriaanse & Thelma Zwedala. Gloria Agulhas heads up logistics and team requirements for each job. Our catering staff are drawn from a pool of Freelance staff that have worked and grown with the company over the years.
Other Aspects:
Catering ranges from the Corporate Sector, Private Groups and Individual functions to Inbound Tourist Groups and Incentives. Prices, Menus and needs are catered for individually and packages are Tailor made for each function.
